Maybe I should try out for the roller derby
A few weeks ago a friend of mine had this wonderful idea that involved taking the kids on an outing to the local roller skating rink. I roller skated a lot as a young girl with my sisters and enjoyed it very much, so to say I was quite excited was an understatement. I was like a kid in a candy shop and could not wait for the weekend to arrive.
All through out the week I kept telling myself that it was like riding a bike. Once you learn how to do it, you never forget. You just get rusty and need practice.
When we arrived at the roller rink all the memories from my younger days started coming back to me. Skating backwards. Doing the hokey pokey and the limbo. Not to mention all the other fancy stuff I used to do. What I really remember the most though was just how much fun it was. How exhilarating it was to skate as fast as you could around the floor almost feeling as if you were floating.
Okay so that was like 20 some years ago. I snapped back to reality quite quickly and actually started to rethink the whole idea when I realized that falling down at my age? Might just land me with a broken leg. That is IF I could even manage to stand upright with skates on to begin with. Curiosity was at its best because I was dying to know if I still had it in me.
Keven and Isaac didn't want to skate so that left Keven Jr. in my hands. It was up to me to teach him how to stay steady on his feet and maneuver around without wiping out. And I have to say I was really impressed at how well he did for his first time on roller skates. I was also proud of myself at how well I did too.
We had so much fun skating around that afternoon I know for sure we'll be heading back soon. Whether Keven Jr. wants to go or not.
