Big Sister Little Sister

I just wanted to take a quick moment and wish my older sister a very happy birthday as today is her special day. I wish we were there to celebrate with you!

And here's to many, many more!

Maybe I should try out for the roller derby

A few weeks ago a friend of mine had this wonderful idea that involved taking the kids on an outing to the local roller skating rink. I roller skated a lot as a young girl with my sisters and enjoyed it very much, so to say I was quite excited was an understatement. I was like a kid in a candy shop and could not wait for the weekend to arrive. All through out the week I kept telling myself that it was like riding a bike. Once you learn how to do it, you never forget. You just get rusty and need practice. When we arrived at the roller rink all the memories from my younger days started coming back to me. Skating backwards. Doing the hokey pokey and the limbo. Not to mention all the other fancy stuff I used to do. What I really remember the most though was just how much fun it was. How exhilarating it was to skate as fast as you could around the floor almost feeling as if you were floating. Okay so that was like 20 some years ago. I snapped back to reality quite quickly and actually started to rethink the whole idea when I realized that falling down at my age? Might just land me with a broken leg. That is IF I could even manage to stand upright with skates on to begin with. Curiosity was at its best because I was dying to know if I still had it in me. Keven and Isaac didn't want to skate so that left Keven Jr. in my hands. It was up to me to teach him how to stay steady on his feet and maneuver around without wiping out. And I have to say I was really impressed at how well he did for his first time on roller skates. I was also proud of myself at how well I did too. We had so much fun skating around that afternoon I know for sure we'll be heading back soon. Whether Keven Jr. wants to go or not.

Moniker

Isaac is in love with his snowboots. And on most days he wants to wear them. Snow or no snow. So I let him. And he's a happy camper.

And then it hit us that with the 'moonboots' and the short, wavy hair that he started to resemble someone. Does he remind you guys of anyone? Any guesses?

Are you smarter than a kindergartner?

Keven Jr. celebrated his 100th day of school yesterday, so obviously he's moving right along and is officially a school-ager now. He's adjusted, he's become comfortable and he seems to be learning at a rapid pace. And quite possibly because of this confidence he's embraced since he's a student now, he's outgrown his britches. You all know how that saying goes, right? Let me tell you a little story. Every single day so far this year, I've packed Keven Jr. a sack lunch to take with him to school. Not a single day so far this year has he asked for a 'hot lunch'. He's been content with what I've made for him, and not complained one bit. Until this morning. He wanted a hot lunch today for some reason and I, being his mother, came up short in the wallet department. The wallet was empty. I explained to him that today I wasn't prepared to give him money for a hot lunch as he had requested, so the cold lunch I had made would have to do. He wasn't happy with my answer. He moaned and groaned. He told me that cold lunches were for babies and that he wasn't a baby and that he wanted a hot lunch. He pouted. He wouldn't put his shoes and jacket on so that we could leave for the bus stop because I wouldn't let him have a hot lunch. He pulled out all the stops and finally I convinced him that today just wasn't a good day since I wasn't prepared, and that tomorrow would be better. I promised him that he could have a hot lunch on Friday, and he seemed content with that. I finally got both boys loaded up in the car and off to the bus stop we went. We were there with several minutes to spare and while we were waiting together in the car out of the blue Keven Jr. said to me "You know Mom. You could have just taken money out of my piggy bank so that I could have had a hot lunch today. You aren't so smart, are you?" Oh boy. Those britches I think just popped a button.
